Test Scores

Candidates receive scores on a Band Scale from one to nine for each part of the test - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average result from the four parts then form the Overall Band Score, rounded in whole bands or half bands.

IELTS Test Results

Self-collection – Candidates taking IELTS in the British Council centres can collect their results on the 13th day after the written test from 01:00 pm onwards at British Council, Ground Floor, West Block, Wisma Selangor Dredging, 142C, Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur. Should the result release date fall on a public holiday, kindly collect it on the following workday from 01:00 pm onwards.

Online Results Service – Candidates taking IELTS in the British Council centres can view their test results online via IELTS online results service on the 13th day at 09:00 am. Online test result viewing will be available only for 2 weeks, after which the information will be deleted automatically. Should the 13th day fall on a public holiday, results can only be viewed on the following workday from 09:00 am onwards.

Test Report Form (TRF)

Test scores are recorded on an official Test Report Form (TRF), showing overall ability, as well as performance in listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Please note that candidates will be issued only one (1) copy of the Test Report Form on results release day.

Candidates may authorise a friend or relative to collect the result from our centre on behalf at no additional cost. The candidate would need to complete and submit the IELTS Authorisation Form. Uncollected Test Report Forms will be destroyed after one (1) year.

You can view your results online at 9.00 am onwards, 13 calendar days after the test. The system will not display results older than 28 days after the test.

Candidates may request for up to a maximum of five (5) additional TRFs to be posted to receiving organisations (e.g. universities, immigration offices etc.) free of charge. If you would like us to do this, please include the complete addresses when you register. Request for additional TRFs made after the test day or requests exceeding the first five will be charged a fee. An additional fee will be charged if you opt for the additional TRF(s) to be sent by courier.

Candidates may request up to two (2) additional TRFs (personal copy) under conditions such as damage or loss. No reason or evidence for loss or damage needs to be submitted by the candidate.

Submissions for additional TRFs must be made through the IELTS Application Form for the Issue of Additional TRFs with a copy of ID document used on test day. A fee will be levied for an additional TRF service for each copy.

Enquiry of Results

Candidates may apply for an enquiry on results (EOR) only at the centre at which they took their test. They must apply within 6 weeks of the test date. The candidate's test material is forwarded to the UK for remarking. The fee is RM 350.00. Should the there be changes to the band scores, the fee is refunded.

It takes 8 weeks from receipt of the candidate's exam materials in the UK before the candidate is notified of the re-mark results. The candidate will receive an EOR feedback letter stating their final result status.

Candidate should submit the following required documents to the British Council in person or by post.

  • A completed and signed IELTS Enquiry on Results Form.
  • Your original IELTS Test Report Form
  • Payment of RM350.00 by cheque, credit card or cash at Kuala Lumpur and Penang centres.
